In-laws booked for dowry harassment

Mehatpur police have booked Lakha Singh, a resident of Baggupur Bet village in Amritsar, his father Joginder Singh and mother Sumitar Kaur for breach of trust and subjecting a woman to cruelty over dowry.

Mehatpur police have booked Lakha Singh, a resident of Baggupur Bet village in Amritsar, his father Joginder Singh and mother Sumitar Kaur for breach of trust and subjecting a woman to cruelty over dowry.

Raivnder Kaur, a resident of Mehatpur, complained to Jalandhar (rural) senior superintendent of police that she was being tortured and forced to bring more dowry since her marriage with Lakha in 2007. She alleged that he had married a second time without divorcing her.

Station house officer Manjit Singh said a case was registered under Sections 406 (breach of trust) and 498-A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) of the Indian Penal Code.

In another case of dowry harassment, Mehatpur police also booked Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Gorsian Peer Khan Mohamed village in Ludhiana, his father Kartar Singh and mother Bharava Bhai on a complaint from his wife Amarjit Kaur, a resident of Vehran village.
