Introduce women's rights as subject in schools: women's commission

In an attempt to aware women about their rights and train them in self-defence, the state women's commission will write to education department to introduce a separate subject in 'women's rights and self-defence' in schools and colleges of the state.

In an attempt to aware women about their rights and train them in self-defence, the state women's commission will write to education department to introduce a separate subject in 'women's rights and self-defence' in schools and colleges of the state.

While hearing the grievances of women in Sangrur on Friday, chairperson of women's commission, Punjab, Paramjit Kaur Landran said that this would be empower women at an early stage of their lifves. She said the commission had launched a campaign to provide justice to the women at their doorsteps. Women from four districts - Mansa, Bathinda, Sangrur and Barnala - approached the commission.

More than 60 cases came before the commission, of which 9 were resolved on the spot with the mutual consent of both the parties.

She said commission would soon launch an awareness campaign in schools, colleges and universities to aware girls of their rights. "It is need of the hour to teach our coming generations about the ethical values to build a healthy society and reduce crime against women," she said.
