Ludhiana-based shuttler Arun Dhand adds another global title to his kitty
Bags the title of 55+ senior doubles event in the 41st Open UAE Badminton Tournament held at Dubai
Adding another feather to his cap, Ludhiana-based shuttler Arun Dhand, 61, lifted the trophy of the 41st Open UAE Badminton Tournament held at Dubai from May 6 to 11.
Dhand participated in the 55+ senior doubles event in which he partnered with Harjeet Singh of Delhi to clinch the title. The tournament saw participation from around 640 players of different age groups from across the world.
Dhand and Singh defeated Lalmony and Abdul Salam of the UAE in the finals by 21-16 and 21-18.
Notably, Dhand had clinched a silver medal in the 102nd All England Senior Open Badminton Championship that held at Hatfield in England last month.
A businessman by profession, Dhand believes that age is never a barrier if one is determined to fulfil one’s aim. A former officer of customs and central excise department, Dhand took to professional badminton in 1973 and used to go for practice on a cycle to Shastri badminton hall at Guru Nanak Stadium. Nowadays, he practices in the evening hours at a city-based club.
Dhand won his first medal in 1994 in the 35+ age category of the Indian Master National Championship that was held in Jalandhar and since then, he has been pocketing dozens of achievements both at national and international level tournaments. The passionate shuttler said he will continue playing until his health allows.
