Ludhiana: Police constable booked for taking Rs 20K bribe
The constable had been seeking bribe for his personal use, while making false claims that money will be used for construction of shed at the police post.
Police on Saturday booked a constable deputed at Lalton Kalan police post for allegedly taking bribe of Rs 20,000 from a resident of Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Nagar on Dugri road in Ludhiana.

The complainant, Surinder Kumar, claimed that constable Darshan Singh had demanded cash for construction of shed at the police post.
Surinder said he had come in contact with Darshan about a month and a half ago. “Darshan had introduced himself as a police constable and sought Rs 20,000 from me as bribe. He also threatened to implicate me in a false case if I did not comply with his demand,” he added.
“I succumbed to the pressure and gave the said amount to him, but his demands did not end there. Darshan sought Rs 20,000 more from me and when I refused, he intensified his threats and began to abuse me over the phone,” Surinder said.
The complainant said he then started recording the calls made by Darshan and filed a complaint with additional deputy commissioner of police Gurpreet Kaur Purewal, who then marked an inquiry to assistant commissioner of police Ramandeep Singh Bhullar.
Surinder, who has produced all recordings to Bhullar, claimed that he was unable to pay the bribe and due to threats and abuses uttered by Darshan, he developed psychological problems and was availing treatment for them.
Bhullar, after probing the matter, recommended registration of a first information report (FIR) against Darshan.
“We will arrest him soon. It has come to the fore during investigation that the constable had been seeking bribe for his personal use, while making false claims that money will be used for construction of shed at the police post,” Bhullar said.
The police have registered a case under Sections 7, 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act against the constable.
