A number of serious cases remain unsolved.

Recently, unidentified men had struck at a police naka outside the busy Hall Gate and fled after snatching a self-loading rifle from a constable on naka duty.

Raids were conducted, and a sketch was issued. But the police are yet to crack the case.

Another case that continuous to be untraced is a child’s kidnapping and murder. A minor child named Gurkirat was kidnapped from Verka and after a few days, the body of the boy was found from a street close to his house.

The police had claimed an extensive search operation and had also rounded up a few persons. Still the child was murdered and the police are yet to arrest the accused.

The case had frightened the locals and raised a question mark over the security of children. Since the police had failed to nab the accused, the Punjab Human Rights Organisation had demanded a CBI probe in the case.

In January, three jail inmates used a water pipe to scale the 30-ft-high walls of the central jail and ran away. Though the Amritsar police managed to arrest one, two jail inmates are still at large.

Police had claimed that efforts were made and raids conducted, but till now, both the jail inmates continue to be on the run.

An incident that shocked many when a Punjab Police head constable was murdered by unidentified person still remains unsolved.

A head constable who was heading towards his house was found dead near Sultanwind with a bullet injury in his neck.

Though both Amritsar police and Amritsar (rural) police had started the probe, they have not succeeded.
