Man gets life term for murder

The court of the district sessions judge has awarded rigorous imprisonment for life to a man who had brutally killed a woman with whom he had illicit relations, in December 2011.

The court of Raj Shekhar Attari pronounced the verdict on Wednesday.

The court convicted Ranjit Singh, a resident of Pedhni village under Bakshiwala police station, under Sections 302 and 309 of the IPC. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 2,500 on him.

He has been held guilty of the murder of Harpreet Kaur, with whom he had illicit relations and used to visit her house.
On December 19, 2011, the accused called Kaur to the local Baradari Gardens, where following an altercation, he repeatedly struck her with an axe.

Then, the accused also tried to commit suicide. Harpreet later died at the hospital.
