The strategic Manali-Leh highway was closed for traffic on Monday following snowfall at the Baraclachala pass connecting Himachal’s Lahaul and Spiti with Ladhak in Jammu and Kashmir.
"The Baralachala pass is closed for traffic due to snow," Border Road Organisation Commander Colonel A.K Awasthi told Hindustan Times over phone. Baralachla pass in Zanskar range is 4,890 metres above the sea-level. "There is two feet snow on the road and the vehicles are unable to ply. There is snow on almost 10 kilometres stretch," he said. The total length of the Manali-Leh highway is 490 kilometres. About 230 kilometres of highway is Himachals boundary and falls in Jammu and Kashmir. "The Rohtang pass gateway to tribal district Lahaul and Spiti was officially closed for traffic on November 15."There is no snow at Rohtang so far," he said.
