No x-rays in Mohali civil hospital, patients suffer

A 55-year-old patient, who suffered an injury at home, was advised x-ray by the doctor at the hospital, but could not get it done from the hospital as she was asked to go someplace else for the same. “I have severe pain in my chest and doctor has asked me to get x ray done. But the staff here says they do not have x-ray films thus the same cannot be done,” said Kusum, a resident of sector 56.

“Civil hospital is closest so we came here but now I will have to get it done from outside,” rued Kusum, who could hardly walk owing to pain.

Another patient, Indira Devi (33) who has been suffering from back pain was also given the same reason and asked to go to private labs, where they charge at least Rs 250, while one can get it done for Rs 150 at the government run civil hospital.

The staff expresses its helplessness saying, “We cannot do anything. There are no X-ray films.” The staff is opting for digital x-rays for patients in emergency only and can excess reports on computer but the other patients are being turned away.

As per sources, about 20 patients come for x-ray on daily basis. “Emergency cases are just 2-3 cases a day. Only these X-rays are being done,” said hospital sources.
