NRI among six of family booked for forgery
A non-resident Indian and five of his family were booked for forgery when they refused to marry a girl with whom he had made an engagement and allegedly took Rs12 lakh for marrying and settling her abroad.

Canada-based Jasleen Singh Dhaliwal, a resident of Kothr Hawala Dhakli Dhilwan Klan village under Bajakhana in Faridkot district, had allegedly struck a deal to marry Jagtar Singh's daughter Harpreet Kaur of Jhatra village, a sub-division in Ferozepur.
For this, the NRI had asked for Rs 40 lakh and Rs12 lakh was handed over to him and February 3 was fixed for the marriage, but they did not turn up for the wedding despite the fact the arrangements were made, Jagtar alleged.
Jagtar Singh said when he enquired from the NRI's family, they refused to solemnise the marriage.
A case under Sections 420 and 406 of the IPC and Sections 3/4 of the Dowry Act was registered against the NRI, his father Pyara Singh, mother Sukhjit Kaur, uncles Gurdeep Singh and Nirmal Singh and sister Money.
The father of the NRI and his two uncles had been arrested while others were at large, said a police official.
