One dead, six injured in clash over land in Hoshiarpur village

One person was killed and six others injured today after a land dispute between two groups in village Mansoorpur ended in a bloody clash. Deceased Gurpreet Singh (25) succumbed to bullet injury in the head at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), Ludhiana. He was allegedly shot by Bhupinder Singh alias Sona (45).

Deceased Gurpreet Singh (25) succumbed to bullet injury in the head at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), Ludhiana. He was allegedly shot by Bhupinder Singh alias Sona (45).

The deceased's uncle, Hakikat Singh, and his cousin, Manjot Singh, have also sustained bullet injuries. Bhupinder Singh, his wife Rupinder Kaur and mother Mohinder Kaur and cousin Jaspal Singh have sustained injuries caused by sharp-edged weapons. The injured were referred to DMCH.

A block samiti member of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Bhupinder Singh had a running land dispute with village sarpanch Mahabir while Gurpreet, his uncle and cousin reportedly supported the sarpanch. The two groups also had an altercation a few days ago.

SHO Jagdish Raj Attri said that the police have received two versions of the incident and were investigating both.

Balkar Singh Sidhu, SSP Hoshiarpur, said that the police have registered a case against Bhupinder Singh. He said that the police will also record the statement of Bhupinder Singh and register a case against the other party.
