"The state government is not doing justice to the employees of one of the biggest universities of the country," said Paramjit Singh Gill, president of the PAU Non-Teaching Employees Union. He said the government has not only delayed the salaries, but had also not granted their dues under the sixth pay commission.

He said the employees of the university were frustrated and could go to any extent to highlight their demand. "PAU is the university that brought green revolution to the state and made Punjab self-sufficient," said Gill.

The union members have been protesting on the university campus since May 8 against the non-payment of their salaries for April.

The state government had made an arrangement of giving the arrears of the pay commission in three installments - 40% in the first year of implementation (May 2011), 30% in 2012 and the rest in 2013.

Gill alleged that even the pensioners were not getting their pension.

PAU comptroller AC Rana said, "We are not getting the required grants from the state government. Our requirement is Rs 15 crore per month and we have been getting Rs 7.4 crore per month."
