JS Mahal, who is heading the project, said: "A committee was formed under vice-chancellor BS Dhillon to construct this gate that will be given a 'Mughal' touch and will cost `14 lakh."

The gate being constructed for the past several months at the university's main entrance (known as gate number 1) has invited criticism from several faculty members and students, who feel the authorities could have used the funds for developing basic infrastructure.
