Police said Sharma, who belonged to Samrala, was running a brothel in a rented accommodation in Moti Nagar area.
To evade police action, Sharma had deputed a woman on the gate of the house, so she could alert them if she spotted cops, while he himself also used to frequently keep a tab on the activities outside the house.
While Sharma escaped, those arrested have been identified as Harmeet Singh of Purani Sabji Mandi of Samrala, Sonu alias Nagra of Nagra village, Pooja of Banaras, Anjali of Kandaghat and Anjali of Samrala.
Inspector Sukhdev Singh, station house officer (SHO) at Moti Nagar police station, said the police raided the brothel following a tip-off.
When the police raided, Anjali was standing at the gate to keep a tab outside, while Sharma fled the scene, even as five accused were apprehended, the SHO added.
A case under sections 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, has been registered at Moti Nagar police station.
Earlier, the Doaba police had arrested seven people, including four women, for a similar offence on July 6.
