Punjabi varsity teachers meet vice-chancellor to protest new transfer policy

Protesting against the Punjabi University’s new transfer policy, the teachers of 13 affiliated colleges met the university officials, here on Monday.

A delegation of teachers from the Punjabi University Constituent Colleges Teachers’ Association (PUCTA) met vice-chancellor (VC) BS Ghuman, registrar Manjit Singh Nijjar and dean academic affairs GS Batra to discuss the policy.
“In 2013, the university had passed a resolution stating that it will stop transferring teachers working on a contract basis in its constituent colleges,” said PUCTA president Lovdeep Sharma .
“However, now, the university plans to transfer regular lecturers from other colleges to the constituent colleges and contract teachers to other government colleges.”
At least 90 teachers are employed at colleges across the state on a salary of ₹21,600. Teacher Rakesh Kumar said, “The teachers in the university’s constituent colleges receive meagre salaries and transferring them is unfair.”
Punjabi University has constituent colleges at Mansa, Sardulgarh, Bahadurpur, Barnala, Benra (Dhuri), Chuni Kalan, Dhilwan, Ghanaur, Ghudda, Jaito, Miranpur, and Moonak.
