Rs 7.44 crore sanctioned for cleaning ponds

The Punjab government sanctioned ` 7.44 crore to the district administration for the cleaning and modernisation of ponds in the villages of the district. Chairing the meeting of the panchayat department, deputy commissioner Varun Roojam directed the officials to carry out surveys to identify ponds which need cleaning.

The Punjab government sanctioned ` 7.44 crore to the district administration for the cleaning and modernisation of ponds in the villages of the district. Chairing the meeting of the panchayat department, deputy commissioner Varun Roojam directed the officials to carry out surveys to identify ponds which need cleaning. For the task, he said two ponds from each block would be identified and the work will be carried out through the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).

"The officials concerned have been directed to submit a report within a month about the identification of ponds so that work can be started after the monsoons," he said.
