Deputy commissioner Arshdeep Singh Thind said during the year 2013-14, with the use of hi-tech agriculture inputs and hard labour of the peasants, Sangrur produced 5,498 kgs wheat per hectare.
Thind also said Sangrur district, for more than four decades, had been contributing a large quantity of wheat and rice to the central pool. The good yield can be attributed to the free electricity being given to the farmers for uninterrupted irrigation.
