SGPC hails verdict against gay sex

On Thursday, the SGPC issued a statement from its headquarters here that the apex court's ruling was "in line with the Indian culture, ethos and tradition".

On Thursday, the SGPC issued a statement from its headquarters here that the apex court's ruling was "in line with the Indian culture, ethos and tradition". "It should put to rest the debate on whether this form of relationship is legal or illegal, and whether or not it should be allowed in our society," the committee added.

"In Indian culture, there is no place for gay relationships. India is a secular nation but no religion gives consent to these relationships," the SGPC stated further. Claiming that all talk on gay sex reflected the "bad influence" of the western culture on India, the committee said gay sex was against the very laws of nature, and people who indulge in it were non-believers in the divine power that had created this universe.

"Those indulging in gay sex are neither part of any family nor acceptable in society," the statement added.
