Questioning the speculations over BJP MP Navjot Sidhu's entry into the Congress, state Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa on Sunday wondered how could Punjab Congress allow an "undesired" leader into the fold.
"The state Congress is not short of leaders that it has to welcome someone who has not even offered to join the party," said Bajwa, who was at Guru Har Sahai, 36 km from here, to attend a bhog ceremony.
Talking to HT, Bajwa said, "Union minister Jairam Ramesh is not much aware of the political scene in Punjab. Only the party high command would take the final call on it and that too after receiving a request from Sidhu."
The list of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) is almost in the final stage and would be released by the end of this month, Bajwa said.
He said he had tried to accommodate all sections of the party in his recommendations.
The sitting Congress MPs of the state and those who had contested the last parliamentary polls as party nominees would again be fielded in the coming polls if their performance was found good, said Bajwa.
He said a majority of the sitting Congress MPs of the state had disbursed more than 90%of their MPLAD funds.
Bajwa said there was a wave of resentment prevailing in the state against the current state government following their "anti-people" policies and the electorate would give them a befitting reply in the next polls.
Congress MLAs Parminder Pinki and Raja Warring, former minister Hans Raj Josan and former MLA Mohinder Rinwa were present on the occasion.
