Six injured in Patiala as out-of-control truck rams into eight vehicles
Six people were injured when a truck, loaded with gunny bags, went out of control and rammed into eight vehicles on Monday near the bus stand in Patiala.
Six people were injured when a truck, loaded with gunny bags, went out of control and rammed into eight vehicles on Monday near the bus stand in Patiala.
Four cars, three auto-rickshaws, and a bike were among the vehicles, which were totally damaged. The injured were rushed to the local Rajindra hospital. The truck driver escaped from the site.
Investigating officer (IO) Iqbal Singh said the damaged vehicles have been impounded and the police were recording statements of the victims for registration of a case. He added that some of the vehicles were totally damaged, but no casualty was reported.
FAULTY FLYOVER
The number of accidents at the spot is mounting with every passing day and people are blaming the design of the flyover. They believe the overbridge, which ends at the traffic light near the bus stand, should have instead finished at the next signal. A source in the transport department said that the slope increases the speed of the vehicles and the traffic light was installed at where the flyover ends. “It is difficult to halt a loaded vehicle when it is coming down from the slope,” the official said.
This is the second such incident in a week on the same spot as a PRTC bus had also collided with six vehicles due to the alleged failure of brakes on April 28. Six people were injured.
