The car robber killed in the Pipli encounter on Friday was dreaded criminal Karanveer Singh, son of Satnam Singh who is from Nissang ‘dera’ in Karnal district and a crime accused.
Kurukshetra CIA (crime investigation agency) assistant sub-inspector Kuldeep Singh was killed in the search mission to catch the two car robbers who had abandoned the vehicle stolen from Haveli restaurant on the GT Road near Ambala. Kurukshetra CIA-2 inspector Kewal Singh has said that the slain criminal was identified from his picture in his wallet. As his parents are on the run, his guardians were called over to identify him on Friday evening and it is they who claimed the body after autopsy.
Karnaveer Singh, 30, was unmarried and police said he was involved in more than 15 cases of crimes such as attempt to murder, looting, and dacoity in Haryana and Punjab. His father is accused in 25 criminal cases. Karanveer Singh was active in Kurukshetra district.
Since the encounter, his father and brother have locked out their “dera” and absconded. Police suspect that they might be the accomplices with Karnarveer who had abandoned the stolen car near the GT Road trap and fled.
