Tibetans mark 1959 uprising against Chinese rule

They said their protest aimed to highlight China's “ongoing brutal crackdown on nonviolent demonstrations” across Tibet since March 2009, which they claimed resulted in “hundreds of confirmed and unconfirmed deaths” of Tibetans exercising their fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression and peaceful assembly.
“The situation in Tibet continued to remain grave and tragic last year, which led protests, self immolation by the Tibetan people for their cause against oppression of China government, which continuously targeting innocent Tibetans in their homeland” said Thokome, a Tibetan residing in the town.
“Deteriorating situation in Tibet continues and the actual history of Tibet continued to be distorted in documentaries shown over state television channels, which would worsen the situation in coming days, if international community failed to take any concrete step in this regard to defend the rights of Tibetans” he added.
“We appeal to world governments and international communities to diffuse the crisis in Tibet, including self immolations, by giving autonomy to the Tibetans and getting China to end the brutal crackdown in Tibet and release all political prisoners who have been arrested,” Sonam, another local Tibetan, said.
