Two held for harassing woman, passing lewd comments in Sector 31

A day after a Punjab police cop and two students were arrested for stalking a woman in Sector 36, the UT police have arrested two men for passing lewd comments at a woman near the Sector-31 filling station on Dakshin Marg on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
This is fourth such incident in the city within five days.

Accused Narender Rana of Zirakpur and Devinder Singh of Manimajra were produced in court on Tuesday, which sent them to judicial custody. Both hail from Himachal Pradesh. Police said Narender is unemployed but used to run a placement consultancy earlier and Devinder is working with a private firm in IT Park.
The victim, who is a student, in her complaint said her brother and she were returning from Zirakpur and had stopped to have tea on the roadside near the Sector-31 filling station around 12:30am.
The accused, who were present there, allegedly passed lewd comments at her, following which she called the police control room.
The two have been booked under Sections 354 ( sexual harassment), 354A (making sexually coloured remarks) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code at the Sector-31 police station.
Stalking: Punjab cop, two students sent to judicial custody
Chandigarh The Punjab Police constable and two students arrested for stalking and trying to kidnap a Mohali woman on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday were sent to judicial custody on Tuesday. Police had got their remand for a day on Monday.
Accused Jaskaran Singh, 27, is posted as a constable in Mohali, while Gurdass Singh, 20, and Karamveer Singh, 20, are first-year BA students of a private college in the city. The trio, in an inebriated condition, allegedly chased the woman’s car in their SUV for around 2km while passing lewd comments.
The 26-year-old woman was returning home after meeting a friend around 12:30am. Her ordeal started in Sector 36. She initially ignored her pursuers, but the driver allegedly kept trying to block her way and finally intercepted her car. One of the accused allegedly alighted from the SUV and approached her vehicle with “wrong intentions”, said police. The woman somehow managed to escape and called the police control room and described the appearance of the three accused and shared the registration number of their vehicle.
After about 20 minutes, a police control room team of Sector 36 caught the accused from the Sector-35C market. Police said the accused were unaware that the woman had lodged a complaint .
