Woman among 3 killed in collision at Shahkot
Three people, including a woman, were killed when the car they were travelling in was hit allegedly by a speeding truck at Shahkot late on Tuesday night.
Three people, including a woman, were killed when the car they were travelling in was hit allegedly by a speeding truck at Shahkot late on Tuesday night.
Station house officer(SHO) Manjit Singh said the deceased had been identified as Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Meharwala village, Jatinder Singh of Markhani village in Ferozepur, and Gurpreet Kaur wife of Jasbir Singh, a resident of Markhani village in Ferozepur.
Gurmeet Singh of Markhani village told police that the victims were on their way to Jalandhar in a car accompanying a heart patient when their vehicle was hit by a truck near a private hospital. Gurpreet and Jatinder died on the spot, while Gurpreet Kaur died on way to a hospital.
The SHO said a case was registered under sections 304-A (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving on public road), 337and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 427(mischief) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against unidentified truck driver, who managed to flee the spot. Police have impounded his truck. The bodies were handed over to their family after post-mortem.
In another case, police have booked an unidentified driver in connection with an accident near Talwandi Mdho village, in which a Tata Ace vehicle was hit, killing Kulwinder Singh, a resident of Lohian Khas, on December 27.
