Police have booked a woman's lover after the former was found murdered along with another man at a house in the Gagan Avenue under Chhehertta police station on Thursday.
The deceased have been identified as Darshana and Rajpal. The suspect, Mangal, was living with Darshana for the past few years.
"A case under Section 302 of the IPC has been registered against Mangal on the complaint of Sonu, son of Darshana," Amritsar police commissioner RP Mittal said.
Darshana had started living with Mangal after her husband left the house six-seven years back, the police commissioner said. As per the complainant, they had bought a plot in the locality for about Rs 2 lakh and were planning to sell it for Rs 3 lakh.
Two months ago, Rajpal, whom Darshana called her brother, started living with her. Sonu told police that on Wednesday night Mangal and Rajpal had drinks and food in the house before going to sleep.
The complainant said he left the house at about 10:30 pm and when he returned at 2:00 am, he saw Mangal attacking Darshana with a spade. After Darshana, Mangal vent his anger on Rajpal. Both died of their injuries.
Sonu told police that Mangal reportedly wanted to grab the money from the sale of the plot, which made him commit the crime.
