Woman ends life by setting herself afire

A woman allegedly committed suicide by setting herself afire in Mati Das Nagar here on Tuesday. Vitim who has been identified as Suman Kumari (57) was living in a rented accommodation along with her son Rahul and daughter in-law.

Vitim who has been identified as Suman Kumari (57) was living in a rented accommodation along with her son Rahul and daughter in-law. Son works in a cotton factory in Kot Shamira near here while daughter in-law is an employee in a bank in Bathinda.

SHO, Cantonment police station, Paramjit Singh said that woman took the extreme step while she was alone at home at about 3 pm.

He, however, said that it is yet to be ascertained what was the inflammable material she used to set herself afire. By the time people could assess the happening and help the victim, she had died and body was lying in the bathroom.

He said that though prima facie it seems to be case of suicide but police can inquire in to the matter if something suspicious came to fore in the autopsy report. SHO said that as per the statements of family members there was no issue going on in the family which could have made woman to take the extreme step. Also, no suicide note has been found from the place.
