The actor who is known as the 'Shahrukh Khan of Bengal' prefers to be called an international actor and says that Bengali cinema should seek global branding instead of being content with regional box office success.

"Like the reach of our films in the festival circuit, why can't we sell ourselves to the global market in this age of fast communication, cellphones and e-mails?" Prosenjit, told PTI in an interview during the launch of his first official website.

The actor who has acted alongside Bollywood beauties Aishwarya Rai and Bipasha Basu said that the website is a step to create a global identity for Bengali films which he felt, could compete with films from Europe and Asia.

The actor, son of former Hindi film star Biswajit, has been touring the international circuit with his latest film 'Sab Charitra Kalponik' directed by Rituparno Ghosh.

"If one can identify with the theme of foreign films with English sub-titles, why cannot it be the same for Bengali films," said the 'Chokher Bali' actor.

Ruling the commercial as well as the art house film circuits in equal measure, Prosenjit has created a record of sorts by acting in over 270 films in his career spanning 27 years.
