Kamal Haasan-Gautami split: A peek into his love life
Kamal Haasan and Gautami officially split on Tuesday with the latter going public in a blog. However, Kamal has gone through a number of break ups in the past. A look at his love life.
The news that Tamil cinema’s power couple, Kamal Haasan and Gautami, were going their own ways after a relationship of 13 years came on Tuesday. In an emotional blog post, Gautami explained her position. While the actual reason for the split isn’t known yet, she said her priority now was her daughter Subbalakshmi.
Subbalakshmi was born from her previous marriage to businessman Sandeep Bhatia, whom she married in 1998 and divorced a year later. Gautami also stated that she continues to have tremendous respect for Kamal.
While Kamal is to yet make any comment, he has gone through a number of break ups.
His first reported affair was with Tamil actor Srividya with whom he first starred in the hit ‘70s film, Apoorva Raagangal. They went on to act in a number of films together but the relationship did not last. Their affair was the inspiration behind the 2008 Malayalam film Thirakkatha.
In 1978, Kamal married dancer Vani Ganapathy. Happy together for 10 years, their marriage broke up when he got entangled with Sarika in 1988.
The Tamil actor and Sarika soon married and have two daughters together -- Shruti Haasan and Akshara Haasan, both actors. All was good in the Kamal household till trouble came knocking at the door. In 2002, Sarika applied for a divorce after it came to light that Kamal and actor Simran were allegedly in a relationship.
The divorce was finalised in 2004 ending their 16-year marriage.
The Kamal-Simran relationship too ended soon and sometime between 2003-04, Kamal and Gautami entered into a live-in relationship as both didn’t believe in the institution of marriage.
Sadly, that too ended on Tuesday.
