The makers of Mahanati, the upcoming biopic of the legendary south Indian actress Savitri, released a new picture from the film to celebrate the birthday of their leading lady, Keerthy Suresh. The sepia tinted black-and-white photo shows a glimpse of Keerthy as Savitri. Keerthy wears the same hairdo and Savitri’s trademark bindi. Mahanati tells the story of Savitri, one of the most prolific and successful south Indian actress of the golden era.
Makers VyjayanthiFilms tweeted: “Wishing our @KeerthyOfficial a very Happy Birthday. #Mahanati #Mahanadi #??????”
The film stars Dulquer Salmaan as her husband and co-star Gemini Ganesan. Directed by Nag Ashwin, Mahanati will be made in Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam and also stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
Born on January 4, 1936, Savitri made her acting debut in 1950 Telugu-Tamil drama Samsaram, and went on to star in several classics such as Devadasu, Missamma, Penin Perumai, Pasa Malar, Bhale Ramudu, Thodi Kodallu, Mayabazaar and Gundamma Katha.
Keerthy has been asked to put on weight to shoot some important portions of the film.
Speaking about casting Dulquer as Gemini Ganesan, director Nag Ashwin said, “Dulquer’s character of Gemini Ganesan will not merely be on how the legend will be perceived today based on his work and his image. The character goes beyond the physical resemblance, in understanding the veteran on a more emotional level.”
The film, which is currently being shot, has been in the news. It was discussed again recently when the makers cast Arjun Reddy heroine Shalini Pandey in a pivotal role.
