Nayan caps off season in style, finishes second at Sepang

SEPANG: Nayan Chatterjee finished second at the KRS KKS Asia Max Challenge held at the Sepang Circuit in Malaysia on Sunday, thus going on to solidify his status as one of Asia’s best kart racers.
“Competing against the best racers in Asia and finishing second in the championship in my first attempt is something I am very proud about,” said an elated Nayan. “It’s quite an achievement because it was my first experience at this level. You always want more, of course! I was quite consistent throughout the campaign although the final weekend could have been a lot better. I would like to thank my team and my folks who made my life a lot easier.”
Unfortunately, a multiple-kart crash prevented Nayan from clinching another podium finish in Round 6, and capping off his season in style.
SHAHAN ALI CREATES HISTORY
Indian kart racer Shahan Ali Mohsin created history on Sunday as he went on to become the first Indian to clinch a title at the Asian Karting Championship.
Mohsin managed to edge past rival Hayden Haikal in a tough battle, while recovering from a massive bout of food poisoning that forced him to miss two full days of track time.
The 12-year old will be hoping for a repeat closer home in the JK Tyre National Rotax Max Karting Championship as well, where he is leading the Micro Max championship standings with the final round scheduled on September 25.
AJEETESH ADVANCES TO THIRD QUALIFYING STAGE
NEW DELHI: India’s Ajeetesh Sandhu has advanced to the third qualifying stage of the Japan Golf Tour’s Qualifying School for the 2017 season.
The 27-year-old Sandhu made it to the third stage after finishing ninth in the first event of the second qualifying stage played at the Tomioka Club in Gunma, Japan from August 30 to September 2.
Ajeetesh, currently second on the PGTI’s Rolex Ranking, ended ninth at seven-under-209 after shooting scores of 69, 70 and 70 at the Tomioka Club. The Chandigarh lad thus kept alive his hopes of earning his card for the 2017 Japan Golf Tour season.
