Verdasco became angry several times with chair umpire Steve Ullrich when the American official declined to overrule calls. The match was played at Margaret Court Arena, which does not have the technology for the challenge review system.
The sixth-seeded Berdych, the 2010 Wimbledon finalist, will play third-seeded Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals. Berdych, of the Czech Republic, has just win in four matches against Djokovic, the 2008 Australian Open champion.
