Buffon, 36, sustained the back injury during the first World Cup match in South Africa. He underwent surgery and a rehabilitation programme before rejoining Juve at a four-day training camp in Vinevo.
Buffon, a four-times World Goalkeeper of the Year with 102 Italy caps and the 2006 World Cup title, aims to be a starter again at Juve next month.
But coach Luigi Del Neri said that reserve man Marco Storari will be between the posts at the next game Jan 6 against Parma.
