Commonwealth Games 2022 Highlights Day 8: Medal rush in wrestling; India face shootout heartbreak in women's hockey SF

Well Sreeja has survived an epic. The national champion was trailing 2-3 in the tie but then went on the win the rest of the games to take it 4-3 (8-11, 11-7, 12-14, 9-11, 11-4, 15-13, 12-10)! 

No sweat for the superstar pairing of Sharath Kamal and G Sathiyan, who beat Bangladesh's Ramhimlian Bawm and Mohutasin Ahmed Ridoy 3-0 (11-6, 11-1, 11-4) in the men's doubles round of 16.

Treesa and Gayatri start their women's doubles campaign with a match against Jemimah Leung For Sang and Ganesha Mungrah from Mauritius in the round of 16. This should be a straightforward affair. 

United World Wrestling, amateur wrestling's global governing body, has just tweeted that there is a short break in the proceedings for a "safety check" "Wrestling will resume in one hour. We'll restart at 12:15 (local time). We apologize, wrestling fans." It means that bouts will resume at 4.45pm IST. 

Jyothi Yarraji finishes 10th overall after all Heats. She had finished her Heat of 100m hurdles on the fourth place after clocking 13.18s. The Indian fails to qualify for the finals.

No miracle comeback from the Indian against the former world champion. Tennison has lost the match 4-1 (11-2, 11-4, 9-11, 11-3, 11-4).  

While the other two Indian women's singles players are having a rather difficult time, defending champion Manika has sailed through to the quarter-finals. She beats Minhyung Jee 4-0 (11-4, 11-8, 11-6, 12-10). 

Sreeja Akula is up against Wales's Charlotte Carey in the women's singles round of 16. She lost the third game 11-13 and is trailing 1-2.

Reeth Tennison is currently trailing 3-1 to Tianwei Feng of Singapore in the women's singles round of 16. She has taken an interval trailing 3-0 in the fifth game. 

It won't be all-Indian final in the women's singles (classes 3-5) final. Sonal Patel loses to Christiana Ikpeoyi 11-8, 6-11, 4-11, 7-11 in the semifinal, which means that Bhavina Patel will take on Ikpeoyi in the final for the yellow metal.

Sonal Patel will take on Sue Bailey in the bronze medal match.

Sreeja and Sharath have beaten Malaysia's Feng Chee Leong and Ying Ho 5-11, 11-2, 11-6 and 11-5 in the mixed doubles round of 16 and are through to the quarter-finals.

A win by technical superiority win for Deepak Punia. He is just too good for his opponent from New Zealand and is through to the men's 86kg quarter-final. 

Bajrang Punia wraps it up in no time! The Indian pins his opponent in first round to enter quarterfinals.

Bajrang Punia wins 4-0 against Nauru's Lowe Bingham in Men's 65Kg Round of 16.

This is huge! Bhavina Patel has assured another medal for India. She defeats England's Sue Bailey 11-6, 11-6, 11-6 in the semis (Classes 3-5)

India's Lovely Choubey and Nayanmoni Saikia trail 12-14 after End 15 in the women's pairs quarterfinals.

Para TT players Bhavina Patel, Sonalben Patel and Raj Alagar compete in semi-finals of the singles (Classes 3-5) competition.

Later in the day, Sharath/Sreeja will be up against the strong English pair of Liam Pitchford and Tin-Tin Ho in the mixed doubles quarterfinals, while Sathiyan/Manika face Malaysia's Javen Choong and Karen Lyne.

A strong start for the Indian contingent! Sharath Kamal and Sreeja Akula enter quarters, defeat the Malaysian duo Leong Chee Feng and Ho Ying by a 3-1 margin.

Sharath/Sreeja enters QF with a 5-11, 11-2, 11-6, 11-5 win over Chee Feng Eong and Ying Ho of Malaysia.

Manika Batra-Sathiyan Gnasekaran have taken the third game 11-7 against Olajide Omotayo and Ajoke Ojom. They outwit their opponents from Nigeria 3-0 and cruise into quarters of mixed doubles.

Sharath/Sreeja lost the first game but put up a strong show in the second to make it 1-1 against Chee Feng Eong and Ying Ho of Malaysia.

Manika-Gnasekaran take the first game 11-7 against Olajide Omotayo and Ajoke Ojomu of Nigeria in mixed doubles Round of 16 match.

Sharath Kamal and Sreeja Akula are set to face Chee Feng Eong and Ying Ho of Malaysia in Round of 16 tie, while Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Manika Batra take on Olajide Omotayo and Ajoke Ojomu of Nigeria. Both the matches are scheduled to start at 2 pm.

Murali Sreeshankar, who capped off an eventful Day 7 with a silver medal, said that he would like to dedicate his medal to his father and the Sports Ministry of India.

"I am elated. A bit disappointed that I could not win gold but happy that I won silver for the country. I would like to dedicate this medal to all those who stood by me including my father, our Sports Ministry," he told ANI.

India's Lovely Choubey and Nayanmoni Saikia lead 5-3 against England after four ends in the women's pairs quarters.
