Making his international debut, the unseeded Mehta scalped the favourite 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 in a thrilling final, after dropping the opening set and snatching the second in the tie-breaker.
Mehta, who trains under the father-son duo of Tahir and Intikhab Ali at Mumbai's Cricket Club of India, turned giant killer in the competition by stunning second seed Zhe Han Low of Malaysia in the pre-quarter-finals and fourth seed Wai Mong of Bangladesh in the semi-finals to mark a spectacular international debut.
