According to reports, when asked about his team's uninspiring performance and the possible causes for their elimination, Ronald said, "How do I explain Portugal's elimination? Talk to Carlos Queiroz," following which he refused to speak and left the venue.

The comment came after the 25-year old, who was seen spitting in front of camera after the match, seemed perplexed at the coach's changing tactics and the changes in his own position during the game.

Portugal's exit has ensured a quarter-final birth for Iberian rivals Spain, who will now play Paraguay for a spot in the semi-finals.
