As it happened: Rishabh Pant and Shikhar Dhawan hit scintillating half-centuries as Delhi Capitals chased down the 193-run target with six wickets and 4 balls to spare against Rajasthan Royals to rise to the top of the IPL points table. DC are now just one win away from sealing a spot in the play-offs of IPL 2019. Rishabh Pant announced his return to form with a sparkling 78 off 36 balls to guide Delhi to victory. But platform was set by Shikhar Dhawan who scored 54 off 27 balls. Ajinkya Rahane’s 2nd IPL ton went in vain. Rahane roared back to form with a scintillating century and propelled Rajasthan Royals to 191 for six. He remained not out on 105 off 63 balls, decorating his knock with three sixes and 11 fours, while Steve Smith contributed 50 off 32 deliveries. Rahane was dropped on 16 off Axar Patel’s bowling in the 3rd over of the match by Ishant. That turned out to be a costly miss as Rahane batted through the innings to end up with his highest score in IPL.
RR vs DC lIPL 2019: As it happened
“I’ve become vegetarian, and the past few matches, I have changed my mindset and the way I play. Giving the team a good start has been good for me. (This season) I wouldn’t say last two games, maybe more 4-5 games. I just believe that I have to play more aggressive. We were losing early wickets, and I was trying to give partnerships. I am enjoying attacking the bowlers, and loving it,” says Shikhar Dhawan, who scored 54 off 27 balls to set the tone for the chase.
DC rise to the top spot
With the six-wicket victory against Rajasthan Royals tonight, Delhi Capitals have dislodged Chennai Super Kings from the top spot to rise to No. 1 in the IPL points table. When was the last time this happened?
DC beat RR by 6 wickets
Rishabh Pant finishes it off with a SIX! Delhi Capitals win by 6 wickets. They have chased down 193 successfully in 19.2 overs. With 7 wins, DC are now only one win away from sealing a play-off berth
Pant kills it with a six
Staggering stuff from Rishabh Pant, Archer had bowled a brilliant over until now by giving away only 5 runs but Pant makes up for the lapses by hitting a bullet six straight over the bowler’s head off the last ball of the 19th over. DC need 6 runs off the last over.
Rutherford plays a cameo
A six and a four followed by his dismissal but one would have to say Rutherford was doing the right thing, no point in holding back when you’ve got wickets in hand. Rutherford departs for a 5-ball 11-run cameo. DC need 17 runs from 12 balls.
Gopal gets Shaw
OUT! What a moment to get a wicket. Just when it was looking all downhill for Royals, Shreyas Gopal gives them a new lease of live by getting the important wicket of Prithvi Shaw(42 off 39). He tried to get the maximum but the slowness of the ball did not allow him to get the perfect timing. DC need 30 off 19 balls.
Pant gets to his FIFTY off 26 balls
Unadkat leaking runs
10 runs off Unadkat’s 3rd over. The Delhi Capitals are keeping up with the requiring rate. They are at 142/2 after 15 overs, need 50 runs from 30 balls at exactly 10 runs per over with both Pant and Shaw well-set.
SIX! What a brilliant shot from Prthvi Shaw. Boy, does he look great when he gets it right. It hasn’t been the best of nights for Shaw but he hits a superb flick shot to collect six runs off Unadkat. DC need 72 off 42 balls, this match has all the makings of being a thriller.
SIX to end over No. 12. That’s the Rishabh Pant we know, brute force form the left-hander and the ball sails over the long-on boundary for a maximum. 15 runs coming from this Shreyas Gopal over, the Delhi Capitals are getting a move on here.
Pant cuts loose
Rishabh Pant hits Riyan Parag for a couple of fours. 12 runs from the 11th over. a much-needed one for Delhi Capitals, the asking rate had climbed over 11. DC: 93/2 after 11 overs.
The struggles of Shaw
Prithvi Shaw (21 off 23) is really struggling for timing today. His strike rate is under 100, which has forced the other batsmen to take some undue risks. He has to catch up quickly. DC: 81/2 after 10 overs
Riyan Parag shows his moves
Riyan Parag celebrates his maiden IPL wicket - the second youngest to do so - with a dance.
Iyer falls cheaply
OUT! Shreyas Iyer departs for 4. Important wicket for Riyan Parag. The Rajasthan Royals have clawed their way back into the match. DC: 77/2 after 8.5 overs
Dhawan falls for 54
OUT! huge wicket in the context of the game. Brilliant from Shreyas Gopal, he gets his revenge. All the credit goes to him for inviting the batsman by flighting ball. Dhawan misses and Samson, does the rest behind the stumps. The 72-run opening stand has been broken. Delhi Capitals: 72/1 after 7.3 overs
Half-century for Dhawan
brilliant from Shikhar Dhawan. Ever since DC head coach Ricky Ponting criticized him for low strike rate, he has taken his game to another level. He gets to his 4th FITFTY off this season off 25 balls.
End of powerplay
4 runs have come from Dhawal Kulkarni’s 3rd over. He should have got the wicket of Shaw but that’s how things go. The Delhi Capitals’ on the other hand, would be mighty pleased with their start. This is now their highest partnership of this season. DC: 59/0 after 6.
Shaw dropped on 10
Ashton Turner is going through hell in IPL 2019. After scoring three consecutive golden ducks, he now drops Prithvi Shaw when he was 10. That was the not the easiest of chances but should have been taken at this level. Can Shaw do a Rahane?
Dhawan takes Gopal apart
6, 4, . 4, . 1: Shikhar Dhawan takes 15 runs from Shreyas Gopal’s first over to straightaway put the leg-spinner under severe pressure. One would have to say it was a mixture of some great use of the crease from Dhawan and some poor bowling from Gopal, he strayed down the leg-side twice in one over and was punished on both occasions.
Unadkat starts well
Dhawan hit Unadkat for a four in his first delivery but the left-arm medium pacer makes a strong comeback to end the over on a high. Only 7 runs from it. DC: 22/0 after 3 overs
12 runs from 2nd over
Shikhar Dhawan hits Dhawal Kulkarni for a SIX and a boundary in the 2nd over of the Delhi Capitals’ chase. 12 runs from Kulkarni’s first over. DC: 15/0 after 2 overs, chasing 192 to win.
Good start by Binny
A very good first over by Suart Binny, only 3 runs from it. He had both Dhawan and Shaw struggling for timing with his controlled line and length.
Delhi Capitals’ chase begins
The Delhi openers Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan are out their in the middle. They need to give their team a good start in order to chase down 192. Stuart Binny will start the proceedings for Royals.
Rajasthan Royals end up with 191/6
Great last over from Kagiso Rabada, only from 8 it including the wickets of Stuart Binny and Royan Parag. No big finish for Royals but they would be mighty pleased with 191/6 on board. Ajinkya Rahane has batted through the innings with 105* off 63 balls.
Good comeback by DC
In the midst of Rahane’s brilliant century and that unusual record from Ashton Turner, the Delhi Capitals have a slipped in a couple of tights over here. Suddenly, that 200 looks beyond Royals now. RR: 183/4 with 1 to play.
Forgettable record for Turner
Would you believe it? A hat-trick of golden ducks for Ashton Turner! He becomes the first ever batsman to get out for three successive golden ducks in T20 cricket. 0,0,0,0,0 - Turner’s last five innings in T20 cricket, out of which four are golden ducks.
2nd IPL CENTURY for Rahane
OUT! Ben Stokes has been dismissed by Chris Morris for 8. He did not get anywhere near in the middle of his bat and was holed out at long-on. Royals three down for 158 after 16.
Rahane in the 90s
Ajinkya Rahane has moved into the nineties. Fingers crossed in the Rajasthan Royals camp. It will be his 2nd IPL hundred if he does get to three-figures today
11 off 15th over
Rahane and stokes have taken 11 runs from Ishant Sharma’s 3rd over. The Royals have reached 150/2 after 15 overs and the umpires’ have signalled for a strategic time out. How much will the Royals score? Remember 200 has never been scored on this ground.
Smith falls immediately after scoring FIFTY!
He wanted out to hit that out of Jaipur but ends up providing a simple catch to long-off. Steve Smith departs but not after scoring a wonderful 50 off 32 balls. Axar Patel breaks the mammoth 130-run stand between Smith and Rahane. Can Delhi pull it back from here? RR: 135/2
Hat-trick of fours
It was a terrible idea to give Rutherford the ball. Steve Smith has just taken him to the cleaners, three consecutive fours and 16 runs from the 12th over. Ominous signs for Delhi. RR: 122/1 after 12
Injury scare for Pant
Pure frustration from Amit Mishra. He throws it straight back to Smith after being hit for two fours in the previous two deliveries. But unfortunately, the throw hits Pant on his fingers and we have an injury stoppage. Nothing serious though. RR: 107/1 after 11
Back to back boundaries for Smith
Steve Smith joins the party. That is delightful stuff from the Royals captain. He first comes down the track to hit Mishra through the vacant mid-wicket region for a boundary and then uses his wrists to guide the next delivery between point and third man to collect another four. Superb stuff.
Rahane in a different zone
“That’s the Rahane of 3 years ago,” says Sanjay Manjrekar in the commentary box after seeing Rahane hit Axar Patel inside out over extra cover for a four. 14 runs off the 10th over. Rahane(68 off 40) is truly making it look ridiculously easy. RR: 95/1 after 10
FIFTY for Rahane
Ajinkya Rahane gets to his FIFTY (off 32 balls) with a SIX! What an innings this has been, vintage Rahane. Barring that drop catch, Rahane has looked a million dollars today. Letting his bat do the talking perhaps?
A quiet 1st over from Mishra
Amit Mishra’s first over yields 7 runs. Rahane and Smith have set up a nice platform for the Rajasthan Royals. They are at 59/1 after 7 overs.
End of powerplay
That’s the end of the powerplay and Rajasthan Royals have reached 52/1 courtesy some calculative strokeplay by Ajinkya Rahane (40 off 25). He has rebuilt the innings along with Steve Smith after the early loss of Sanju Samson.
Rahane rubs salt to the wounds
Ajinkya Rahane has hit Axar Patel for a SIX and a FOUR in consecutive balls to give the Royals innings some momentum but all that could have been so different had Ishant Sharma held onto the straight forward catch at short fine leg on the second ball of the over. RR: 38/1 after 5 overs.
Smith tries to break-free
A couple of narrow escapes for Steve Smith. He tries to break the shackles by lifting Ishant Sharma straight over his head but mistimes on both occasions. Luckily for him, none of them went to hand and he in fact, collects 8 runs including a boundary. RR: 25/1 after 4 overs.
Good over from Axar Patel
Axar Patel starts well. He was hit for a four by Rahane alright but he conceded only four singles after that. 8 runs from the third over of RR innings. So far Ajinkya Rahane(16) has been doing the bulk of the coring for Royals. RR 18/1 after 3 overs
Rabada, you beauty!
RUN OUT! Sensational stuff from Kagiso Rabada. Not only is he a world class bowler but he is also a superb fielder. Great anticipation from the South African. He was off in a flash when Rahane dabbed that delivery towards the leg side. Samson wanted the quick single but was sent back by Rahane and Rabada nails down the stumps before Samson could dive back into his crease. Samson is out without facing a ball. RR: 5/1 after 1.1
Good comeback by Ishant
That early boundary had no affect on Ishant. He makes a strong comeback to end the first over on a high note. RR:5/0 after 1.
Perfect start for Rahane
WOW! That’ll settle the nerves if there was any. Superb cover drive from Anjinkya Rahane. Everything right about that shot, the balance, the weight transfer and the extension of the arms. Rahane is off and running.
Players are out in the middle
Ishant Sharma will take the new ball for Delhi Capitals and it will be Sanju Samson who will take the strike for Rajasthan Royals. Here we go!
52: Runs required by Steve Smith to complete 2000 runs in the IPL.
9:Shikhar Dhawan needs 9 more sixes to complete 100 sixes in the IPL.
2: Two more sixes by Rahane will make him the third player to hit 50 sixes for RR in the IPL.
71: Runs required by Sanju Samson to complete 1500 runs for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.
3:Shreyas Gopal needs 3 more wickets to reach 50 T20 wickets.
35: Runs required by Prithvi Shaw to complete 500 IPL runs.
2: Ben Stokes needs 2 more sixes to reach 100 sixes in T20s
3: Ish Sodhi is 3 wickets away from reaching 150 T20 wickets.
Iyer: Majority of the sides have won chasing here, so we’re going by that. Our side likes chasing these days and that gives confidence for us. One change - Chris Morris in for Sandeep Lamichhane.
Smith: Looks better than most of the surfaces we’ve seen here. I would have bowled first as well because we don’t know if dew will be a factor but well, have to bat first and bat well. We haven’t played as well as we would have liked here, or anywhere for that matter. Hopefully, we can take confidence from that and move forward. We’re unchanged.
Delhi Capitals: Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Colin Ingram, Chris Morris, Sherfane Rutherford, Axar Patel, Kagiso Rabada, Amit Mishra, Ishant Sharma
Rajasthan Royals: Ajinkya Rahane, Sanju Samson (wk), Steven Smith (c), Ben Stokes, Riyan Parag, Ashton Turner, Stuart Binny, Shreyas Gopal, Jofra Archer, Jaydev Unadkat, Dhawal Kulkarni
Delhi Capitals win toss, elect to bowl
Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer has won the toss and elected to bowl against Rajasthan Royals.
Player battle - Rishabh Pant vs Ben Stokes
Rishabh Pant hasn’t batted to his potential in this tournament and therefore he will be certainly looking for a big innings in his next match. He will be fancying his chances against Ben Stokes as he has a good record against the Englishman. Pant has slammed 20 runs off 14 balls against Stokes in the Indian Premier League.
Player battle - Shreyas Iyer vs Shreyas Gopal
Even though the Rajasthan Royals haven’t managed to win many games in this season, the leg-spinner Shreyas Gopal has been a huge find for them. Gopal has picked up key wickets for his team in this tournament. However, Gopal will be up against Shreyas Iyer in his next match, who has scored 13 runs off 5 balls off his bowling.
Player battle - Shikhar Dhawan vs Dhawal Kulkarni
Shikhar Dhawan and Dhawal Kulkarni have had an ongoing battle in the IPL. The opening batsman has scored 107 runs off 81 balls at a strike-rate of 132.10 against the fast bowler, but has been dismissed once by Kulkarni in the cash-rich league. Kulkarni will be certainly hoping to dismiss Dhawan early on in his innings.
Player battle - Ajinkya Rahane vs Amit Mishra
Amit Mishra has been Ajinkya Rahane’s nemesis in the Indian Premier League. The leg-spinner has dismissed Rahane three times in the cash-rich league. However, the opening batsman has scored 85 runs from 69 balls against Mishra in the tournament. Rahane will certainly look to take on the leg-spinner and ensure that he doesn’t give his wicket away.
Player battle - Steve Smith vs Axar Patel
Steve Smith has struggled against Axar Patel in the Indian Premier League. The Australian has managed just 26 runs from 22 balls against the spinner. However, Smith has been dismissed only once by Axar. It will be interesting to see whether Smith takes the aggressive approach against Axar or will he look to cautiously play him out.
Rahane has a chance to revive his season
Ajinkya Rahane has been getting good starts with the bat but has not been able to capitalize on those starts in this season. However, the opening batsman will fancy his chances against Delhi as he has scored the most runs against DC than against any other team in the IPL.

Prithvi Shaw in focus
Prithvi Shaw hasn’t notched a big score after the innings of 99 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders. The opening batsman will hope to get Delhi off to a good start in this match.
All eyes on Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant hasn’t set the stage on fire since his whirlwind knock against the Mumbai Indians at the start of the season. Pant, who missed out on being part of India’s World Cup squad, will be certainly looking to make a statement.
The Delhi Capitals are at the third position with six wins, while the Rajasthan Royals are at the seventh position with three wins. The Delhi Capitals beat Kings XI Punjab by five wickets in their last match and Rajasthan Royals defeated Mumbai Indians in their previous game.
Ben Stokes under pressure
Rajasthan Royals’ star player Ben Stokes hasn’t contributed much in this season. The franchise will be certainly hoping for Stokes to perform either with bat or ball in this match.
Hello and welcome
A very warm welcome to the live blog of the IPL clash between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals. The newly appointed Rajasthan captain Steve Smith will be looking to lead his team to another victory, while the Delhi Capitals will hope to inch closer to a play-offs berth.
