A senior Mumbai airport official said, “At around 1.17 am, the pilot declared PAN-PAN (international standard urgency signal) and requested the Mumbai Air Traffic Control (ATC) to return to Mumbai as it’s engine 1 had stalled”.

The woman allegedly asked one of the cabin crew members to hand over a note to the pilots, some 40 minutes after Flight I5316 departed from the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Airport in Kolkata at 9:57pm. The note said there were bombs strapped to her body.

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore held a hearing against Saeed and his accomplices on terror financing on Saturday. The court fixed December 7 as the date for indictment of the JuD chief and others.

The aircraft ahead of the SpiceJet plane was of IndiGo and it had a call sign IGO063, the source said.  In the last few weeks, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation has suspended many pilots of SpiceJet and other airlines for similar runway incursion or excursion incidents.

With Pakistan reopening the Karachi-Ahmedabad air route on Sunday evening, air traffic officials in Mumbai said they expect a 10%-12% drop in the excessive air traffic over Mumbai, as these flights will now fly over Ahmedabad.

Currently, the Mumbai air traffic control (ATC), stationed at the city airport, covers 250 Nautical miles (Nm) towards the Muscat airspace, north of Mumbai. The radar in Porbandar, which is to the north-west of Mumbai, will enable ATCOs to cover another 250Nm. Totally, the Mumbai ATC can cover around 500Nm.
