The Supreme Court termed the issue as a human problem with great magnitude and asked the state NRC coordinator to submit a report in a sealed cover on the ramification of allowing the claimants to file new sets of legacy documents.

A Supreme Court order said those whose cases are pending in tribunals and those who have been declared as “D” (doubtful) voters and their descendants will be kept on hold till their cases are decided by the tribunal.

Siblings of ‘declared foreigners’ won’t be in Assam NRC, says high court
