Actor Sarah Michelle Gellar, known for her iconic role as Buffy Summers in Buffy The Vampire Slayer, has made a comeback on television with BIG CBS Love’s Ringer, in which she plays a double role.
“I found the script really exciting, I had never read anything like that before,” says Sarah who plays twin sisters Bridget Kelly and Siobhan Martin in the show. Bridget, a recovering drug addict, ends up being a key witness in a murder trial. Siobhan, on the other hand, lives what appears to be a fairy tale life in New York, married to the wealthy, handsome Andrew Martin (Ioan Gruffudd). When Siobhan mysteriously disappears, Bridget decides to take on her sister’s identity.
“Just the idea of being able to develop two incredibly different characters as an actor is really the most exciting prospect you can have,” explains Sarah.
Talking about her comeback on TV, she says, “After being on an immensely successful show like Buffy, you know you have the freedom to say, ‘I’m not trying to top that — I can’t. So let me have some fun and do something new.’ I’ve always wanted to produce a show from the ground up, trying my hand at all the other aspects of the TV business because that was the one thing
that I didn’t get to experience on Buffy. I love the idea that we’re doing something that’s unlike anything else. I like to work with a sink or swim attitude, just be bold or go home — hopefully we’ll be bold.”
Enjoying her double role on Ringer, Sarah says she is fascinated by the idea of duality “We all have duality in us. Bridget’s story is a story of redemption; her life is about making up for the bad choices and the people that she’s wronged. But as she fills Siobhan’s shoes, she finds herself falling in love with Siobhan’s husband and her life.”
