Hina Khan: Reality shows changed the game for me and people were waiting to offer me work
Actor Hina Khan of Yeh rishta Kya Kehlata Hai fame says that participating in reality shows such as Khatron Ke Khiladi and Bigg Boss helped her break away from the image of a saree clad bahu.tv Updated: Jul 30, 2018 14:14 IST
It hasn’t been long since actor Hina Khan’s Punjabi music video, Bhasoodi Pad Gayi, released. And soon after began the ongoing buzz that she has been roped in to play the iconic character of Komolika in the reboot version of Kasautii Zindagii Kay. Rewind, and Hina, who was popular as a sari-clad bahu in the daily soap, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, for eight years, surprised fans with her glam avatar in Bigg Boss 11. She was the runner-up of the reality show earlier this year, and admits that it changed her life for the better, professionally.
Daily soap, reality show, music video, fans loved you in everything. Does it give you a high?
I consider myself really lucky, like I’ve been God’s [favoured] child. Whatever has happened to me, happened in a way that it turned out to be the best! I did Khatron Ke Khiladi, Bigg Boss and the only daily soap that I ever did, it was the first audition I gave in my life and I got selected and then I was a part of the show for eight years. So, sometimes, you get things without even asking for them.
How has life been, or changed after Bigg Boss?
It changed the game for me. A lot of people thought of casting me in various things while I was still inside the Bigg Boss house. When I came out, people were actually waiting for me so they could offer me new projects. Two days after the show got over, I got a call that I’ve been chosen for the Most Stylish TV personality award and it was the first time I was on a red carpet with all the Bollywood stars. And then, things kept coming in. Also, it’s not like Bigg Boss is over now, so I can relax. I am trying to live up to these expectations.
After Khatron and Bigg Boss, did you consider taking up more reality shows?
I might take a break... Not a reality show but I am open to other things. Talks are on for films, music videos will keep happening. TV, of course, is there and I have already been offered three shows.
Are you ready to be a part of a daily soap, again?
Even if I do, I won’t stick to just doing that. I’ll continue to do other things as well. I have realised that people love to see me in this changed avatar. When I post pictures, I get such good response; they don’t want to see me just in Indian clothes.
So, are you set to defy the notion that TV stars can’t do other things simultaneously?
That’s already happening and I’m proud of women doing so well. Earlier, the notion was such that TV actors are over exposed and that they can’t do films but now it’s not like that [anymore]. I think it all depends on time management and how much time a show needs from me. It’s all a mutual agreement.
