Actor Preity Zinta has joined the league of other celebrity friends-cum-TV anchors with this announcement. Last afternoon, the actor finally inked her contract with Colors to anchor Guinness World Records – Ab India Todega, which is expected to flag off next month on the channel.

The actor returned from USA last week and began negotiating with the channel. The show was announced a month ago, followed by meetings and speculations about who the anchor would be.

The channel zeroed in on Lara Dutta and Zinta, of which the latter eventually hopped on board, preceded by a lot of discussion, debate and deliberations between her and the channel personnel. Presumably, programming head of Colors, Ashvini Yardi is excited about bringing another star name after Shilpa Shetty, Amitabh Bachchan, Sushmita Sen and Salman Khan on her channel.

“Preity is perfect to anchor this show, which also marks the debut of the Guinness World Records format in India. The concept is a hit across 90 countries. We wanted fellow Indians to have their share of opportunities to challenge and break existing records. Preity in a lot ways promotes that feeling of being Indian,” beams Yardi. “She’s represented the country on so many international platforms. To us, she symbolises the Indian who will support her fellow countrymen wherever they’re competing against the world.”

Given that there’s little time left for the show to go on air, would the programming and production team (Miditech) be able to find ample challengers? “With on board, we are confident that the show will enthrall our viewers and we will find lots of Indians who are worthy of being in the World Records’ book. Her enthusiasm and zing would definitely encourage the participants to make our country proud,” says Yardi.

Monetarily, industry speculations are that Zinta is being paid between Rs 20-35 lakh as fee per episode. The actor shot the promo last night that features her trying to break a world record.
