Sacred Games 2 teaser inspires memes: Fans demand Katekar’s resurrection, endorse use of ‘chhatris’
The Sacred Games 2 cast announcement teaser has inspired hilarious memes online, with fans making references to everything from Game of Thrones to Avengers: Endgame, all for Katekar.Updated: May 06, 2019 18:28 IST
Netflix on Monday released the first teaser for the upcoming second season of Sacred Games, based on the novel by Vikram Chandra. Although the purpose of the teaser was to unveil new cast members Kalki Koechlin and Ranvir Shorey, fans have taken the opportunity to make further demands from Netflix, through memes of course.
While several fans wondered about whether Radhika Apte would be making a return (her character was killed off in season one), others were surprised to see Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Ganesh Gaitonde in a snappy suit. However the biggest question on everyone’s minds was the release date, which Netflix did not reveal in either the video or in the two Instagram posts that introduced fans to Ranvir and Kalki’s characters. “Just tell us the launch date,” one fan demanded. “Is she the daughter of Gaitonde and Kuckoo,” asked another.
Fans also shared memes in reaction to the trailer. The first season of Sacred Games was one of the most meme-friendly show in recent memory. Sure enough, one fan asked Netflix if a Jon Snow-esque resurrection was on the cards for Katekar, who was slain in season one. Another fan suggested an Avengers: Endgame-style time travel plot needs to be hatched to bring back Katekar.

Sacred Games was the first Netflix original series from India. It was created and co-directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, with Varun Grover serving as one of the writers, along with Smita Singh and Vasant Nath. Motwane shared directing duties with Anurag Kashyap, who will return to co-direct season two with Neeraj Ghaywan, who fills in for Motwane.
Saif Ali Khan will reprise his role as Inspector Sartaj Singh, and the plot will pick up his race against time to solve Gaitonde’s riddle, which hinted at an impending terrorist attack on Mumbai. The new season will also likely answer several burning questions fans have had, such as the true identity of Taneja, his nuclear bunker, and the role Pankaj Tripathi will play.
More imminently, Netflix has the post apocalyptic drama Leila in the pipeline, the film Chopsticks at the end of May, and a horror show by Sujoy Ghosh.
