The Flash: Exhilarating yet quirky, the show outruns them all
In Part 2 of our special series on most popular American TV shows, we talk about the exhilarating yet quirky The Flash.
TV has been taken over by various superhero shows but none does it better than the witty Flash. The show is based on the DC comics character Barry Allen who plays the superhero known as the flash, and has the ability to run at superhuman speed. The show premiered in 2014 and is an extremely popular show among youngsters.

One trip to any of the comic-con events held around the world and all you shall see is kids and youngsters dressed up as the flash. The show has a light tone with the each character having depth and a certain uniqueness about them. Actor Carlos Valdes who plays the character Cisco Ramon is popular among fans for his quirky sense of humour and witty one liners. Whereas Actor Grant Gustin who plays the lead character “The Flash” is cheeky, charming and adorably awkward, a hit among girls. But what makes the show stand out are the amazing special effects and a storyline which manages to draw everyone in.

The Flash originally came to life on TV in 1990 as a short series. Actor John Wesley Shipp who played the role of the Flash in 1990, played the role of the Flash’s father Henry Allen in the current Flash. Even Actor Mark Hamill, who is famous for playing the role of Luke Skywalker in the Star War series, has appeared in Flash in both 1990 and 2015. And both times he played the role of the popular villain “the trickster”.

During the show you can spot Cisco wearing nerdy tees and some of them pay homage to the popular sitcom Big Bang theory. You can spot Cisco sporting the “Bazinga Tee and “this is my spot” which are all nods to the character of Sheldon Cooper of the Big Bang Theory. Where as Sheldon Cooper can be seen wearing a Flash tee.

Did you know that in the comics, the Flash has raced superman several times and never lost to him. Thereby earning the title of The fastest man alive.

Grant Gustin has a hidden talent for tap dancing. The actor started tap dancing when he was 8 years old. He also played the role of Sebastian Smythe on the musical show Glee for three seasons.

The characters of Harrison Wells played by Actor Tom Cavanagh along with Joe West played by Actor Jesse L. Martin don’t exist in the comic books. But they were added in the show.

The Flash first appearance on TV was in the show Arrow. The show creators plan was to introduce the character of Barry Allen in the show Arrow, and then leading to the pilot episode of the Flash. If the shows pilot episode had it not broken the rating record for its network CW then the flash would have continued as a character in the show Arrow.

Did you know that the show Legends of Tomorrow, which is another superhero show is also a spin-off from the Flash. The TV series premiered this year on January 21.

The Flash also showed up in the newly launched TV show this year on 28th March. Supergirl is based on the character Kara Zor-el, who is the biological cousin of Superman.

Justice league which is scheduled to release next year will also feature The Flash. However, the role of Flash in the movie will be played by Actor Ezra Miller and not Grant Gustin, who plays the role of Flash in the TV show.
