Another TMC MLA joins BJP, day after 3 legislators & 56 councillors defected

A day after the Bharatiya Janata Party inducted 3 legislators and over 50 councillors, mainly from the Trinamool Congress, another TMC MLA joined the saffron party. Monirul Islam was inducted into the party by BJP's National General Secretary, Kailash Vijayvargiya. The mass defections are being seen as a result of BJP significantly increasing its Lok Sabha tally from TMC-ruled West Bengal. From 2 in 2014, BJP won 18 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal.
