‘Cong won’t oppose,’ says BJP as it names Om Birla as next LS Speaker

The Bharatiya Janata party has named Kota MP Om Birla as its candidate for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker. BJP said that they have spoken to the Congress and the party will not oppose Birla's candidature. BJP added that leaders of 10 other parties including the YSRCP and BJD had also backed Birla's name for the post. Birla defeated Congress' Ramnarain Meena by over 2.5 lakh votes from Kota Parliamentary seat in the recently concluded Lok Sabha election.
