While speaking at a campaign rally in Patna, Mayawati, chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and BSP leader criticised social and economic policies of successive Indian central governments. Mayawati accused central government of supporting policies favourable to the elite, and of disregarding the needs of the poor.She also said this bias has led persons of lower castes to embrace violence and join the "Naxal movement", the Maoist movement which began in the eastern town of Naxalbari in 1967.
