Farmers in Punjab ask government to procure cotton

Farmers in Abohar region of Punjab are a worried lot as the government agencies are yet to begin procurement of their cotton produce. This has forced the cotton farmers to sell their crop to private traders at unprofitable prices. The farmers used to get minimum support price of rupees 2800 for their cotton yield at Abohar 'Mandi'. But the state government appears to have developed some reluctance, leaving the private traders to exploit the situation and offer prices according to their whims and fancies.
