Railways, a British legacy passed down to India

Even as Independent India turns 60 on August 15, 2007, it continues to ride a precious British legacy - the world's largest rail transport network. Over 14,000 trains carry more than 14 million passengers daily between Kanyakumari in the southern-most tip to Kashmir state in the north, connecting western Gujarat state near the Arabian Sea to the northeastern Nagaland state that borders Myanmar.
