Republic Day parade begins with US President Barack Obama in attendance

US President Barack Obama, who is on a three-day visit, is the chief guest at the 66th Republic Day celebrations in India. An overcast sky and drizzles could not dampen the spirits in the national capital where top leaders attended the colourful showcasing of military hardware with carnival-style floats featuring tribal dancers and traditional music. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted Obama with a warm smile and handshake at Rajpath around 10am. Obama is the first US president to be the guest of honour on the occasion.
