'New Punjab CM must resign': Women's Commission on #MeToo charges against Channi

NCW chief has demanded resignation of new Punjab CM over allegations of sexual harassment. Rekha Sharma, an IAS officer, accused Charanjit Singh Channi of sending inappropriate texts to her. No formal complaint was lodged & the issue was resolved by ex-Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh. The case was, however, reopened in June after the commission's Punjab chief had sought a reply from the state government. Punjab BJP chief Dushyant Kumar Gautam also took a jibe at Cong over Channi's appointment. Gautam said that the only reason they picked Channi is that they want to win Dalit votes. Ministers supporting Charanjit Channi called it a 'witch hunt' by the Captain camp. Charanjit Singh Channi took oath on Monday as the 16th chief minister of Punjab. Channi has become the first Dalit leader to be appointed as Punjab chief minister. Punjab will go into the polls in 2022.
