The UN Security Council held an urgent meeting on the worsening security situation in Afghanistan. The urgent session was convened as India assumed the UNSC presidency in August. India said terrorist safe havens in Afghanistan must be dismantled, supply chains disrupted. India said there must be zero tolerance for terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. In an obvious reference to Pakistan, India said those aiding terrorist entities must be held accountable. The UNSC meeting came amidst growing military offensives by the Taliban as US forces withdrew from Afghanistan.
